Automatic Switching Valves
![]() ![]() Remote communication made incredibly simple with USB and RS-232 inputs standard! |
Flexible Automation The VX modular valves are flexible to meet changing needs. Several options are available for connecting the valves to your analytical instrument or PC, including contact closure, BCD, serial and USB. VX valves can be controlled remotely or operated manually using the push button front panel with LED position indicator. Increase Laboratory Capability The VX Series II modules are available in a variety of flow paths including options for Nano, Semi-prep, Low Pressure and Ultra High Pressure applications up to 15,000 psi/1000 bar. Each port has minimal port-to-port volume of 0.3 µl. Reduce Downtime The High Pressure and Fast Chromatography VX modular valves feature the Rapid Replacement Pod™ design for easy maintenance. The Rapid Replacement Pod is a complete, factory assembled and tested liquid-end, providing virtually zero downtime maintenance. Traditional RheBuild® kits are also available. The Low Pressure VX modular valves make changing fluidic connections quick and easy with a patented fitting-less tubing connection system. These long-life polymer valves meet the reliability needs of demanding applications. |
| Two Column Selection Column selection allows multiple users to select methods using the correct column for their assay and to conveniently washout and store columns. Columns are stored in the solvent of choice and require no manual changes. Different types of samples can run at night and over weekends using different methods, resulting in better utilization of existing equipment and increased productivity. Column Backflushing Column backflushing is an analytical method in which a switching valve reverses the flow through a column. This method allows automatic clean up of a column without disconnection in situations where sample mixture is trapped on the head of a column. Rather than force highly retainedcompounds through the full length of the column, the reversed flow permits the elution of compounds in a shorter time period. Enrichment On-line sample clean up and enrichment uses a pre-column connected to an analytical column by use of a switching valve. Automation has advantages over offline techniques. On-line analysis improves analytical precision and reduces solvent volumes, since LC pumps meter the flow rates and the volumes of mobile phase passed through both columns. This on-line procedure can enhance productivity by allowing automated, unattended processing of large numbers of samples, using an autosampler and a switching valve connected to the controller of the chromatography. Alternating Regeneration Alternating column regeneration using two matched columns can increase sample throughput. This timesaving process involves equilibrating one column while using the other for analysis. A switching valve enhances the convenience of column regenerating by switching between the analyzing column and the equilibrating column. Column regeneration is beneficial for laboratories running large quantities of samples for such applications as drug discovery and quality assurance. Multi-Dimensional On-line sample clean up and enrichment uses a pre-column connected to an analytical column by use of a switching valve. Automation has advantages over offline techniques. On-line analysis improves analytical precision and reduces solvent volumes, since LC pumps meter the flow rates and the volumes of mobile phase passed through both columns. Manual Switching Valves

Model 7000 & 9010 Two-Position Column Switching Valves The versitile two position six port switching valves are available in different sizes and materials. A number of models are available to accept either 1/16” or 1/8” fittings. These valves redirect flow among columns during the chromatographic run. Applications using these valves include trace enrichment, sample clean up, and coupled column analysis. These valves are also useful for selection between two columns. Compare Model 7000 to the Three-Way Switching Valve (Model 7030) in which each end of the off-line column is independently sealed instead of connected together head-to-tail. Independant seals produce less shock to the column if the valve switches before all the pressure leaves the column. Model 9010 PEEK™ Sample Injector can convert to a six-port switching valve functionally identical to Model 7000 by removing the loop.

Model 3030, 7030 & 9030
Switching Valve, 3-Way The Models 7030 (stainless), and 9030 (PEEK™) are six-port two-position valves with a double three-way switching pattern. You can use them for selecting between two columns. The ends of the off-line column are sealed in a way that is different from the Model 7000 valve. Maximum pressure rating of 7,000.

Model 7040 Switching Valve, 4-Way The Model 7040 is a four-port, two-position Stainless Steel valve. The passages are identical to the 7000, but the external loop converts the functionally. The 7040 with the external loop exchanges the flow pattern from ports (2-3 and 4-6) to (2-6 and 4-3). This flow pattern facilitates applications such as alternating column regeneration and column backflushing. Maximum pressure rating of 7,000.

Model 7060, 9060 Six Position Switching Valve This Six-Position Switching Valve makes HPLC analyses easier and faster and are available in either Stainless Steel or PEEK™. Two manually operated, six-position valves allow convenient selection among six columns for different analytical methods on the same chromatograph. There are several advantages achieved from using the valves instead of manually changing the columns: there is immediate selection, there is no wear on the fittings from repeated tightening, and the valve seals both ends of the off-line columns and keeps them on stand-by for future, immediate use. For manual column selection, the center port of one valve connects to an injector. Turning the valve handle directs flow into one of up to six columns connected to the valve’s six peripheral ports. A second six-position valve connects to the column outlets to select the operating column effluent and to direct it to the detector. The sixth port may be used for a bypass/flush-out tube. This connection permits rapid mobile phase changeover without exposing any column to a mobile phase other than the one with which it is routinely used.

Model 9725 Inert Injector (PEEK™) The 9725 is inert. It applies to both HPLC and soft gel chromatography. It is also suitable for ion chromatography, since metal does not contact the mobile phase. This injector is identical to the model 7725 stainless steel injector, but the materials are different: The loop, nuts, ferrules, stator, and vent lines are made of PEEK™, polyetheretherketone; the rotor seal polymer is Tefzel®. You can avoid exposing sample to a metal syringe by suction loading using the suction needle adapter listed below. The operating pH range is 0 to 14. The injector is set for its maximum pressure capability, 5000 psi (345 bar, 34 Mpa). However, useable pressure may be lower, since it is usually limited by the burst pressure of the PEEK ™ sample loop. Maximum temperature is 50°C. A 20µL loop is attached. Accessory loops from 5µL to 5mL are available.

Model 3725 PEEK™ and 3725-038 Stainless Steel Preparative Injectors These Two injectors are for preparative HPLC with columns from 1 to 10 cm diameter. They have the ease of use and versatility of Analytical Sales’ analytical-scale models, plus the suitability for large sample volumes and high flow rates. Connections are for 1/8-inch O.D. tubing; a port adapter (optional accessory) connects 1/16-inch O.D. tubing. You can inject volumes from 100µL to 20mL. A 10mL loop is supplied; available accessory loops are 2-, 5-, and 20-mL. Loading is rapid and without strain because the large diameters of the loop, valve passages, and syringe needle have a low resistance to flow. Both models have a version with built-in position switch. All models are shipped with fittings for all ports. Rheflex® PEEK™ fittings must be used with the PEEK™ model. PEEK™ models are set for 3000 psi (207 bar, 21MPa), adjustable to 4000 psi. Stainless steel models are set for 4000 psi, adjustable to 5000 psi. Maximum temperature for all models is 50°C. Accessory loops, syringes, and replacement parts can also be found on the list to the right.
